(And yes, I can rightly say that, because I live in York…) In many respects, it’s strange that a city like York – professedly the most haunted city in England – went for so many years without hosting a horror film festival of its own, but since 2020, Dead Northern has been steadily growing in […]
The busiest and best time of the year for Warped Perspective is just around the corner again, as the Fantasia International Film Festival gets ready to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Covering Fantasia has become a regular fixture for the site and it’s always genuinely very exciting: it’s often an opportunity to see world premieres of […]
Hard as it is to believe, today marks ten whole years since the very first post from Warped Perspective! By anyone’s reckoning, that’s a good stint: Warped Perspective was also a relaunch, following the closure of the earlier, US-based Brutal as Hell (which was founded by Marc Patterson back in 2009). So that’s a decade […]
For those of you who still have affection for print media – and why on earth wouldn’t you? – Darkest Margins: 24 Essays on Liminality and Liminal Spaces in the Horror Genre is a completed and upcoming project to watch. Cards on the table: I’m fortunate enough to have a chapter included in the book, […]
The Fantasia International Film Festival – now in its 29th year – has long since established itself as a world-beating event, and it hardly needs saying that it’s one of the real highlights of the year for genre film fans, whether those lucky enough to be in attendance or those of us watching and reviewing […]
For the past few years, Warped Perspective has been fortunate enough to cover the Fantasia International Film Festival remotely and, every year, it’s a high point in the film lover’s calendar. This year looks to be no different. Whilst the availability for press coverage varies, Warped Perspective has high hopes that we may get a […]
After the actor went missing earlier this year whilst hiking in the San Gabriel mountains, it was always a slim-to-none chance that Julian Sands was going to turn up unharmed. Now, sadly, remains recently found in the area have been confirmed as him; whilst not a surprise, it also feels greatly sad to receive that […]
October is a busy month for genre film fans, and for folks on the East Coast it’s happily no exception as the Brooklyn Horror Film Festival prepares to launch this year’s event. Running from the 13th October to the 20th, it promises both a run of classic cinema and brand new titles. (Warped Perspective is […]
Fantasia International Film Festival usually winds up giving me a large share of my films of the year: it’s second to none in sourcing and selecting a frankly daunting array of fantastic new features. Now about to launch its 26th edition, and after bearing up under a couple of years of Covid restrictions, it will […]
Sometimes it feels as though icons of the films we hold dear are leaving us at such a rate, that we couldn’t meaningfully pay tribute to them all. However, it would be completely remiss not to talk about the loss of director Stuart Gordon today, a skilled and frankly underappreciated director who has a hand […]
Now, far be it for us to make assumptions about the kinds of folks who visit this website, but it doesn’t seem like too much of a leap to imagine that some of you might like to imbibe a cool beer as you watch your movies, be these brand new movies or the stone cold […]
