By Jamie Brownlie Dear God, Ben. What are you doing to me? My second review for the site and not only do you give me a found footage movie but found footage torture porn? As I said above, this is the second movie review I’ve written for the fine folks at Brutal as Hell and […]
By Ben Bussey British genre cinema has long had a problem with finding its own voice. Beyond the work of a few key filmmakers leading the way – say, Danny Boyle, Edgar Wright, Neil Marshall, and I suppose once upon a time Guy Ritchie – the bulk of the UK’s attempts to produce anything that […]
By Keri O’Shea Can it really be five years since Dream Home first graced our screens? Bloody hell. It seems incredible that one of the biggest hits of the festival circuit of the year of its release and a big success with many horror film fans has had to wait until now to make it […]
By Jamie Brownlie The comments on a DVD cover can be very distracting. A reference to a movie we love can set our expectations high, higher than they have any right to be. They can also make us give pause as we hit play on the DVD player. For me, the cover of They Will […]
By Quin I have this natural impulse to begin this review by stating that Shadow Zombie isn’t for everybody. But isn’t that every film that gets reviewed at Brutal as Hell? Obviously the bulk of what we cover seems to be horror and the rest are still brutal in one way or another – so, […]
By Keri O’Shea I feel like I should start this review of Stu Willis’ first book, The New Flesh, by doing two things. Firstly, in case I get accused of cronyism, I’ll say this much: I know Stuart, as we both cut our teeth on the same website, Sex Gore Mutants – a site Stu […]
By Svetlana Fedotov Though perhaps not one of the biggest horror franchises in the movie industry, Puppet Master has managed to carve itself out a nice little niche in the cult film scene. In fact, the little murdering puppets (or muppets as I like to call them) have proven so oddly popular that they have […]
By Nia Edwards-Behi A confession from the outset: I’ve never seen a Mad Max movie. It’s one of those franchises I just haven’t managed to catch up on. My excitement for Fury Road, however, escalated with each and every poster and trailer released. It reached that point where I needed to talk down the film […]
Review by Quin When I first heard the Grim Sleeper had been arrested, I immediately went to Google maps to see what his house looked like and where it was located. Living in Los Angeles county all my life, I know the area well, but there are still some areas that seem foreign and distant. […]
By Keri O’Shea Japan, 1960s: a young man by the name of Jiro ( the effortlessly cool Akira Kobayashi) has just been released after eight years in the big house. No sooner has he walked through the gates, but an approaching man curtly reminds him that, as Jiro was implicated in the death of his […]
By Ben Bussey Our old hero Joe Dante doesn’t seem to be having the best of luck with his new movies in recent years. His last feature, 2009’s kiddie horror The Hole, sat on the shelf for a couple of years before being largely (and unfairly) ignored by the mass audience. Half a decade on, […]
