By Comix Pin-up art tends to have its ups and downs. First getting popular in WWII, airplane fighters found themselves painting busty ladies on the side of their ride with such timeless names as Versatile Lady and Back Seat Betty. The fifties exploded into a bonanza of painted, photographed, and penciled pin-up girls, and this […]
By Comix Originally, when I heard that Brutal as Hell was celebrating its five year anniversary, I was like “alright, lets do the top selling horror comics from each of the past years and call it a day,” mostly because I’m too lazy to decide for myself what was the best horror comics from the […]
By Comix KISS is one of the rare bands to have survived more or less intact for over forty years. From performing to an audience of a grand total of three people to selling out arenas around the world, they have left a legacy that has touched every facet of entertainment, including comic books. Though […]
By Comix There’s nothing like a good villain to really make a superhero series pop. Sure, you can say it’s the plot, or the depth of hero’s physique rippling with sexy muscles, but when you see that first curled grin of the protagonist’s arch-nemesis creeping in from the shadows, you get a little tingly in […]
Review by Comix For every one successful series to emerge out of the pandemonium that is comic fandom, there are dozens to have appeared and subsequently disappeared into the two-tone background. Untold stories of one-shot superheroes, strange romances, and paranormal mysteries, left behind to rot in the gloated memories of those who say ‘it was […]
Review by Comix I got to admit, when I first saw the title “Clown Fatale” and the tag “sexy female clowns mistaken for contract killers,” I wasn’t completely sold. I was imagining an awful, tit-filled comic stuffed with shitty art, shitty story, and shitty dialogue. Well, at least two of the three. Needless to say, […]
Review by Comix Over the twenty years that Hellboy has been around, he has faced monsters and demons of all shapes and sizes. From mythical creatures of worship to sprites and fairies, Hellboy has beaten, stomped, and quipped with the best of them. Of course, like any good comic character, all heroes are required have […]
Review by Comix Leonardo Da Vinci once said: “While I thought I was learning how to live, I have been learning how to die.” Plenty of authors have attempted to capture the meaning of this quote, from Dante to Nietzsche, creating works that flared the imaginations of bummed out kids everywhere. With the perfect dystopia […]
Review by Comix There is a quote on the back of Atomic Robo Vol. 4 from Major Spoilers that says: “If you’ve never read Atomic Robo, then there is something seriously wrong with you.” Let me tell you, I must have had a freaking brain aneurism because how I managed to miss this amazing comic […]
Review by Comix Cal McDonald has been shot, stabbed, bitten by creepy, grimy ghoulies, probably set on fire, and survived death itself, but now he’s facing something that many who have fought a horde of blood-sucking vampires rarely get to face. ANOTHER GODDAMN SERIES! That’s right, he’s back! After a nail-biting fight between Steve Niles’ […]
By Comix With the increasing popularity of horror and horror icons, other genres have begun to crossover to the torrid side, creating works that either suck, rock, or defy all explanation. Vampires and romance? BAM, Twilight. Zombies and comedy? BAM, Shaun of the Dead. Sharks and Tornados? BAM, we call that Sharknado! Another popular crossover, […]
